The natural swimming area with a magnificent view over the historic city of St.Gallen and Lake Constance.
The Drei Weieren , or Three Ponds, were built in the 17th century to supply water for textile bleaching and putting out fires, and it soon became popular among locals as a destination for outings and swimming. Back then, men and women had separate bathing ponds which is still reflected in the names Manne- und Buebeweiher (pond for men and boys) and Frauen- und Familienbadi (pond for women and families). Today, the Drei Weieren are among the most beautiful natural swimming areas in Switzerland. The beautiful historical Art Nouveau wooden buildings are a reminder of St.Gallen's past as a textile metropolis.
Today, the local recreational oasis invites young and old to swim, stroll, picnic and even ice-skate in winter.
Arrival to the Drei Weieren
Arrival of Drei Weieren: The pond landscape is very well connected to the city centre. So the Mühleggbahn or the city buses 2 and 8 (direction St. Georgen Bach) go to the station «St. Gallen, Mühlegg». From there you can reach the ponds in about five minutes on foot. In the summer months there is even a bathing bus that goes directly to the ponds. Those arriving by car will find paid parking spaces, among other things, at the Frauenbad.
